Solar powered parasol to charge your gadgets at public places

The parasols, Eclipse and Kosmos, have been developed by Konark Technologies Inc. and were a great success at the event because they not only provided shade to the people puffing and panting in the sun, they also provided people with an outlet in open space to charge their laptops and mobile phones with their advanced technology . The parasols are covered with a thin lightweight film made of Organic photovoltaics. Organic photovoltaics have an edge over the traditional silicon based panels as they are far more versatile than the latter ones and they are made up of recycled materials. These OPVs are actually semi transparent and flexible films that are non – toxic in nature and that can transform light into electricity easily.

Since these two solar parasols are covered with the film of OPV, they can capture the solar energy to charge devices easily and almost anywhere. Moreover, the electricity can be easily stored in the battery packs and can be used later.

Eclipse has been designed in collaboration with Umbrosa and is a simple yet elegant design of a parasol. It is not huge in size but it is quite useful in providing shade and charging devices. The umbrella is made up of a big ring which holds a shade sail beautifully and on that sail runs the OPV film in a sophisticated manner.

Kosmos, the another parasol has been developed with Extremis and has come out quite well so far its functionality is concerned. It also contains an LED light, as an add on, which is again powered by solar panels and hence can easily be converted into a lighting apparatus at night. The parasols provide a great way to charge electronic devices at public places without any kind of hassles.
