The asteroids storm that changed Earth

The heavy asteroids rain , known as Late Heavy Bombardment, which occurred on Earth between 4,200 and 3,500 million years ago, or even later, many of the features of the Earth are attributed to this storm, but the constant changes in Earth's crust and tectonic plates complicates scientist work in order to find any evidence.
This week, couple of Nature and science newspapers revealed clues about the origin and frequency of the rain of asteroids and comets, which began when the solar system was formed.

In one publication, the researchers, Jay Melosh and Brandon Johnson, from Purdue University (USA) have analyzed a trail of dust from comets which kept in some earth rocks layers. "These are particles that vaporize during the asteroid's impact and reach the atmosphere, there are vitrified (solidified), the fell to the surface leaving a layer as footprints of these disasters," said Jesus Martinez Spanish researcher -scientist of the Spanish Center for Astrobiology (INTA-CSIC).
